Volunteer Youth Mentor
The Island is a York-based charity that has over the last 15 years helped children and young people between the ages of 8 and 18 overcome challenges with their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing through regular recreational mentoring provisions. Alongside their fully trained volunteer mentor, the one-to-one mentoring programme provides children and young people with the time and space they require to build positive thoughts and feelings about themselves so that they are better able to cope with future life challenges.
About this Opportunity
Mentors help young people feel safe, confident, and ready to take on life.
We often get new referrals from families and services, and the need for mentors keeps growing. More young people need someone who can listen, care, and spend time with them.
We are looking for ordinary people (like you) to make an extraordinary difference to a young person’s life in York.
Are you:
- Reliable?
- A good listener?
- Up for trying new things?
- Available 1-3 hours each week to spend time in York with a young person?
If you answered yes, then mentoring may be the right fit for you!
