Community First Responder
Community First Responders (CFRs) are trained volunteers who respond on behalf of the ambulance service to certain 999 emergencies within their local community. By providing early assessment, basic life support, CPR, and defibrillation where required, CFRs help ensure patients receive vital care as quickly as possible while an ambulance is on its way. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference during some of the most critical moments in a person's life.

Community First Responder (CFR) Volunteer
About the Role
Community First Responders (CFRs) are trained volunteers who respond to certain 999 emergencies within their local community on behalf of the ambulance service. In many medical emergencies, the first few minutes are critical, and CFRs play an important role in providing immediate care and reassurance to patients and their families before the arrival of an ambulance crew.
As a Community First Responder with North West First Responder Group, you will be part of a dedicated team of volunteers committed to supporting local communities and helping to save lives. Responders are equipped and trained to provide basic life support, including CPR, defibrillation, oxygen therapy (where applicable), and other emergency care interventions within their scope of practice.
When a suitable 999 call is received, a CFR may be alerted and asked to attend alongside an ambulance response. While CFRs do not replace ambulance crews, they can often arrive first and provide vital early treatment and information that can make a significant difference to patient outcomes.
