Cancer Research UK's Shine Night Walk Event Volunteer

Across the UK, Shine supporters are getting ready to walk a marathon, half marathon or 10K through the night to raise vital funds for research into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. But our participants couldn’t cross the finish line without the passion and energy of an amazing team of volunteers like you. Whether you’re going solo, bringing a friend or are part of a larger group, your support powers our events and helps make progress possible.

About this Opportunity

We have many volunteering roles on offer at our events. Let us know in the ‘Comments’ section of your application if you’d prefer a particular role, or our Events team can place you wherever you’re needed most on the day. We’ll provide a full briefing when you arrive, so you feel confident and excited to get stuck in. No matter what role you do, you’ll know you’re making a huge difference to those taking part in our amazing events.

General Volunteer

Happy to help wherever is needed!

Course Route Marshal

You’ll be located at a strategic point along the course, ready to cheer and motivate the walkers as they make their way across the city. You’ll be supported by a Zone Manager and be paired up with another volunteer. You can also bring a friend to buddy up with!

Cycle Team Volunteer

You’ll be guiding, supporting and motivating participants by cycling parts of the route. This role requires you to have your own bike suitable to the terrain of the course.

Pit Stop Volunteer

You’ll be part of the team at one of our pit-stops, helping to motivate the walkers and handing out refreshments.

Venue Volunteer

You’ll be part of a team assisting in tasks at Start/Finish venues, such as set-up or handing out medals and water.

Driver Volunteer

You’ll be driving a vehicle of provisions around the route to support the health and welfare of the walkers and other volunteers, or driving a vehicle with medical staff in to support any medical needs along the route.

Wayfinding Volunteer

You’ll be working as part of the team to guide participants around the start and finish points at the event.

What to Expect After Applying

Once you complete our online application form through the Cancer Research UK website you will receive a confirmation. We will then be in touch 4 weeks from the event with a full briefing.
