The free and award-winning Young Producers programme is open for new applications from young people aged between 16-25, including a new group at Redcar’s Kirkleatham Museum, along with groups at Preston Park Museum in Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool Museums Service. This programme offers young people the chance to programme their own events and exhibitions at Tees Valley Museums. Young people are supported with:
- A group budget to make their ideas a reality;
- Free, pre-arranged transport to and from meetings (within the Tees Valley);
- Staff support, careers talks and skills training;
- Free bi-monthly visits to other creative organisations to learn about the creative industry, careers and the wider creative/heritage landscape;
- Pizza at every meeting.
Previous opportunities have included a group visit to Berlin, co-curating an exhibition with the British Museum, speaking at a Barcelona conference, opportunities to work with international artists and planning and facilitating a range of events.
Previous participants have gone on to jobs including the Natural History Museum in London, Hopetown, Museum of Hartlepool and to lead paid creative workshops.
This is an amazing opportunity for any young person in the Tees Valley, especially those interested in the creative industries, history, museums or heritage and/or those who are interested in making venues more interesting/engaging for young people.
