Volunteer Safeguarding Lead

Supporting Humanity is looking for a Volunteer Safeguarding Lead to oversee and strengthen safeguarding practice across the charity.

Working closely with the charity’s leadership and volunteers, you will help ensure that our safeguarding arrangements remain effective, legally compliant and appropriate for both adults and children.

Your responsibilities will include:

• - Developing, reviewing and updating adult and child safeguarding policies in line with current legislation and recognised practice.
• - Developing safeguarding training and arranging its delivery to relevant volunteers.
• - Supporting the completion of appropriate DBS checks for new volunteers.
• - Acting as the main point of contact for volunteers who wish to report a safeguarding concern.
• - Listening to concerns, assessing the information received and taking appropriate action.
• - Making referrals to adult social care, the Disclosure and Barring Service or the police where required.
• - Monitoring the progress of safeguarding cases and referrals.
• - Maintaining accurate, detailed and secure records of concerns, decisions and referrals.
• - Managing the charity’s safeguarding email account.
• - Keeping your safeguarding knowledge current and advising the charity on relevant changes.
• - Providing safeguarding reports to the Trustees and Operations teams when required.

We are looking for someone with appropriate adult and child safeguarding qualifications and practical experience of handling safeguarding concerns. You should be confident managing sensitive and confidential information, communicating with people at different levels and making sound decisions in potentially challenging circumstances.

Strong written communication, attention to detail and proficiency with Microsoft Office are important. Experience with DBS processes or Atlantic Data would also be valuable.

This is a hybrid volunteer role requiring approximately 5–7 hours per month. ou will report to the Trustees and work both independently and collaboratively with relevant colleagues across Supporting Humanity.
