
Literacy Support Volunteer (Hackney)
As a Volunteer Crewmate, your role is to join our In-person sessions and help children practise their reading and writing, 1:1 and in small groups.
About this Opportunity
- Receive full training.
- Gain experience working with children and leading small groups.
- Develop your communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Take part in games and have fun.
- Be invited to celebration events with the children to see the difference that you’ve made.
- Are aged 16+
- Must be a UK resident, and are able to commute to our Hackney ship
- Complete a criminal background check (we cover the cost of this)

About Literacy PiratesWe are teachers who believe that all young people should experience success in learning. Through publishing projects, reading support and the power of local community, we're on an adventure to build a fairer world.Our Volunteering RoleOur volunteer Crewmates work one-to-one with Young Pirates, aged 9-13 supporting them to develop their literacy, confidence and perseverance at our after school sessions. During these sessions you will support our Young Pirates to produce one of our termly creative projects, such as published books, films screened at the local cinema and audio projects recorded at a professional recording studio.
