Befriending Volunteer

Do you have an hour a week spare for a cuppa and a chat with an isolated older person? We know lots of older people in your area who would love a little more company. We ask our volunteers to visit an older neighbour once a week for an hour - have a natter, catch up and make a new friend. Please get in touch to find out more.

Skills:
Age: 18 - 100
When: Flexible
Where: Onsite And Remote

All we ask of our volunteers is company. Just a good old conversation. We ask for empathy and consideration and to show that you care.  We dont ask you to do odd jobs, accompany people on hospital visits, pick up prescriptions - we just ask you to visit an older neighbour in their home or give them a ring and have a good natter. This is role is so important and so needed. There are thousands of older people who are very lonely. Loneliness can have significant impact on both physical and mental health. One visit a week from a befriender can improve this. You will have full support from a volunteer coordinator who you can contact at any time with any worries or concerns you may have. You are matched with an older neighbour who will live in an area convenient to you and we ask you to visit once a week at a time convenient to you both. This is a friendship between two people with the full support of b:friend as and when you need it. Many of our current volunteers comment on how they get a lot out of befriending - it gives them a break from their normal life. If this is something you feel you would be interested in, please get in touch, we would love to have you on board.
