Schools Disability Awareness Programme Assistant

The Schools Disability Awareness Assistant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of engaging and interactive workshops that promote disability awareness and inclusion among children and young people. Volunteers will visit local primary and secondary schools to help promote understanding, empathy, and inclusive attitudes towards people with disabilities. The Lead Volunteer will lead the session and multiple assistants will help them engage with the children.

About this Opportunity

Time Commitment: 5 hours per month

Location: In person at schools across SW London

What we are looking for

Whilst no specific experience is required, we are looking for candidates who:

  • Have lived experience of Disability – this is required for this role
  • Are able to attend 2 sessions per month, minimum
  • Have experience working with children or young people, in a voluntary or paid capacity
  • Are able to travel to schools within the Richmond Borough or SW London (expenses are covered)
  • Have some tech experience, training provided

What will I be doing?

This could be:

  • - Supporting the lead during the workshops
  • - Helping set up and organise activities and materials
  • - Engaging with children aged 5-18 (Can pick preference between primary and secondary)
  • - Provide additional support to children if needed
  • - Happy to talk about their Disability, if need
  • - Supporting with tech (powerpoint), this is not mandatory

How will Ruils support you?

We will provide you with onboarding training, safeguarding training and ongoing support throughout your time volunteering with us. This includes regular check ins over the phone and in person support sessions and trainings open to all volunteers.
