Volunteer of the Month - August 2014
Meet Our Inspiring Volunteer
Danielle Bezzina has been selected as the Volunteer of the Month for August 2014. Our youth blogger recently caught up with her to discover what makes her stand out in the world of volunteering.
A Remarkable Journey
At just 19, Danielle has dedicated 556 hours to volunteering, balancing her commitments with two organizations alongside her job. Her story is a testament to the impact of volunteering for young people.
Supporting Young People
Danielle has been volunteering with Groundwork and Manchester Young Champions, where she mentors young people in youth clubs, attends meetings, and helps organize sports festivals. Her dedication to civic engagement and teamwork has made a significant difference.
The Surprise Nomination
“I didn’t even know I had been nominated!” Danielle exclaimed. Recognized for her hard work and resilience, she was pleasantly surprised by the nomination.
Personal Growth Through Volunteering
Before volunteering, Danielle admits she was unfocused. “Volunteering has transformed me,” she says. From improved confidence to a positive outlook on life, her journey exemplifies resilience and staying positive.
Discovering the World of Volunteering
Initially hesitant, Danielle was persuaded by youth assistants to volunteer. “I soon realized volunteering could be a good thing,” she recalls, crediting her youth workers for supporting her through tough times.
Balancing Act
Danielle manages her volunteering around her apprenticeship and work at Manchester City Football Club. “Volunteering is important to me,” she asserts, embracing every opportunity.
Fostering Collaboration
When asked what she would do with £500, Danielle envisioned a team-building day for volunteers to share experiences and learn from each other, highlighting the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
Encouraging More Young Volunteers
Danielle believes awards like the Volunteer of the Month are crucial for encouraging volunteering for young people. “I didn’t know about the awards initially, but they motivated me to continue,” she shares. “I’ve even inspired others to volunteer.”
