Tony’s SOG Blog from V Festival 2010

At the vibrant V Festival in Chelmsford, I embarked on my first journey volunteering with the BigVBus. Initially unsure about my role as a promotional volunteer, I quickly discovered that it’s a fantastic platform for young people to showcase their skills and get noticed. The welcome was warm, and I was immediately involved in all the activities.

The first notable performance was by a band called ‘Annaca’. They played right in front of the bus, creating an intimate and friendly atmosphere, a stark contrast to the main stages’ distant vibe. I chatted with ‘Annaca’ post-performance, and they were thrilled about the exposure they received, especially since they’ve only been together for a year.

The day featured a variety of acts showcasing different skills. Christina and Lucy hosted a workshop on making cuddly toys, while Teamwork & Collaboration was exemplified by Team Kinetic through their free-running and acrobatics.

A standout act was DJ Jappk, the UK DMC Champion, whose scratching and beat juggling energized the crowd, alongside the beatboxing of Bass6. Operating the green screen, where festival-goers starred in their own music videos, was another highlight.

Later, ‘The Magic Numbers’ performed, thanks to Vinspired Lake of Stars, getting everyone excited for the evening lineup. They even collaborated with resident volunteer beatboxer Bass6, doubling the entertainment.

Volunteering on the bus was immensely rewarding, not only for the experience but also for the festival wristband that came with it. Now, I’m off to spread the word about the BigVBus and catch performances by the Kooks and Kasabian.
