Volunteer of the Month - May 2014

Celebrating Outstanding Volunteers

Amira Haque is our Volunteer of the Month for May 2014, recognized for her exceptional contributions as a Team v Leader. She has excelled in recruiting new volunteers, many of whom were first-time volunteers.

Interview with Amira

Congratulations on being vInspired’s Volunteer of the Month, Amira! How does it feel?

“At first, I was really shocked, and it took a while to sink in. It’s humbling because someone has recognized your work. It’s an honor as volunteering is often about giving back to the community without expecting anything in return. This recognition encourages more people to volunteer.”

Can you tell us how you first got involved with vInspired?

“I was inspired by the Team v slogan on the vInspired website: ‘Change the world one campaign at a time.’ It intrigued me, so I applied for the Team v programme. I’ve been volunteering for eight months and will complete the programme in June.”

What does the Team v programme involve, and can anyone join?

“Team v Leaders are provided with a topic, training, budget, and targets to run events in their community. You design everything. Anyone aged 16-25 can join as a volunteer, and those aged 18-25 can apply to become Leaders.”

In what ways have you made a difference through volunteering?

“Many people joined Team v Cambridge, and for most, it was their first volunteering experience. We saved around 100 items of clothing in our first campaign and raised awareness about healthy relationships in our second campaign.”

What would you say to encourage more young people to volunteer?

“There is something for everyone—just explore! If you’ve considered signing up on the vInspired website, do it. Whether it’s setting up your own project with Cashpoint or joining Team v, just go for it. It’s an amazing experience.”

If you were the Prime Minister for a day, what would you change?

“I would make volunteering accessible for younger people (12+). It enhances life quality, and I would encourage schools to provide volunteering opportunities for all students.”
