Why We’re Still So Hungry for Change

Volunteering for food banks

In 2011, addressing food poverty was Team v’s inaugural campaign. Fast forward to 2014, and we find ourselves revisiting this critical issue. Why? Because food poverty in the UK continues to intensify, and there’s an urgent need for action. Luckily, there’s plenty you can do to help. Join us in our latest campaign, Beyond a Tin of Food.

In April, our campaign collaborators, The Trussell Trust, released alarming statistics indicating a significant rise in the number of people relying on food banks. This resurgence in media attention even boosted online donations to The Trussell Trust. We felt compelled to contribute, and our Team v Leaders are poised to take on this challenge.

Back in 2011, 50 Team v Leaders collected more than 20,000 food items for 100 local organizations. This year, they aim to double that effort, with even more Leaders ready to tackle the root causes of food poverty.

Since 2011, the number of individuals turning to food banks has soared by 610%. Our Leaders will not only collect food but also immerse themselves in understanding the reality of relying on food parcels, seeking long-term solutions to this pervasive issue.
