Get Trashed
A 2013 campaign against fast fashion that set out to keep more than 10,000 items of clothing out of landfill, launched with a swap party at Ministry of Sound.
A programme of the vInspired charity, 2013 to 2014. Updated on 13 September 2026
What it was
Get Trashed was a campaign by Do Something UK, the charity’s digital campaigning arm, against fast fashion. Its aim was to prevent more than 10,000 items of clothing from reaching landfill by February 2014. It launched on 24 November 2013 with a Car Boot Disco at London’s Ministry of Sound, with Kiss FM, where clothes were swapped and customised on the spot and People of Print ran a live screen-printing workshop. Young people who wanted to run their own “trash to flash” project could apply for a £500 vCashpoint grant.
What it did
1,480 items were customised or swapped on the launch day alone. The campaign’s survey of 2,000 young people found that 80 per cent did not know that a third of the UK’s clothing ends up in landfill, that 54 per cent would join a clothing swap, and that 24 per cent bought second hand.
