Star Pupil

A 2011 search, for the European Year of Volunteering, for pupils aged 11 to 16 who went the extra mile in their school or community, run with Catch22.

What it was

Star Pupil was a competition run in spring 2011, the European Year of Volunteering, by v, the National Young Volunteers Service, in partnership with Catch22 and supported by the Office for Civil Society. Anyone could nominate a pupil aged 11 to 16 who “went the extra mile” to help in their school or community. Nominations closed on 27 May 2011.

What it did

Four winners each received an iPad 2 and £500 for volunteering at their school: pupils at St Andrew’s CE High School for Boys in Worthing, Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School in Barnet, Heaton Manor School in Newcastle and Roseberry Sports and Community College in County Durham. The judges came from the Citizenship Foundation, the SSAT and the Rafiki Network.
