A school runs two things that look similar on a timetable and mean different things in a report. Enrichment is the club, the fixture, the trip, the thing a student takes part in. Volunteering is the thing a student gives. Fold them together and both numbers lose their meaning.
Enrichment tracking is the classification that keeps them apart. Each activity is marked as enrichment, as volunteering, or as both where it genuinely is both. Participation then reports separately, and enrichment hours never quietly appear inside a volunteering total.
The reason this matters is the question at the end of the year. Who has taken part in nothing? A school that cannot separate the two cannot answer it, because a student with forty hours of football looks identical to a student with forty hours in a food bank.
The classification is set once, on the activity, rather than being applied to each attendance afterwards. That is deliberate. A rule applied row by row is a rule somebody forgets on a Friday, and a term of enrichment quietly becomes a term of volunteering by the time the report is written.
It also protects the volunteering number in the direction that matters most. A certificate marks verified volunteering hours, so an enrichment hour that leaked into that total would be a certificate awarded for something nobody volunteered for. Keeping the two apart is what makes either of them worth quoting to a governor or a funder.
Reporting on the two separately is also what makes a conversation with a funder or a governor short. Somebody asking about enrichment gets the enrichment figure, somebody asking about volunteering gets the volunteering figure, and neither has to be caveated with an explanation of what else is inside it.

Can an activity be both enrichment and volunteering?
Yes. A club that runs a community project is genuinely both, and it is recorded as both rather than being forced into one.
Do enrichment hours count towards certificates?
No. Certificates mark verified volunteering hours. Enrichment participation is counted for badges and for school reporting and is kept in its own bucket.
Can we see who has taken part in nothing?
Yes, and it is the question the classification exists to answer. Participation reports by group, so a year with no involvement is visible rather than inferred.
Does this change what students see?
No. Students see their activities and their record. The classification is for reporting.
Who decides whether an activity is enrichment or volunteering?
You do, when you create the activity. Vinspired does not reclassify what a school has decided, because the school is the one that has to defend the number.
